This patient is a very healthy 55 year old who needed to get another 35 to 40 more years of life from his teeth. It looks like about half of the tooth length is worn away. Bruxism and chemical erosion are at work here.

Many of the teeth have been bonded, but his entire mouth needs to be rebuilt.

The front teeth wear out faster than the back ones because of their relatively small size. They no longer can touch firmly enough to bite a sandwich.

A look at the right side shows how curved the biting plane has become.

On the left side it is clear that most of the tooth enamel has eroded or dissolved away.

The radiograph shows a mouth filled with very strong teeth with long roots that can all be used to support new crowns. He even had his wisdom teeth (third molars), and one tooth with a root canal.

This patient wanted a very bright "Hollywood Smile", which can be done when ALL of the teeth are crowned.

His wife was his motivation to fix his teeth, and she approved of his new youthful appearance.

The porcelain edges of the front teeth will be stronger than the bonded edges in photo 4.

The upper back molars were not included so that they could be used to maintain the vertical dimension of occlusion (vertical bite position), which had not changed, in spite of significant loss of tooth height. (in this case, his teeth erupted to meet each other as they wore down in length).
